Explore the latest online programming from the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), bringing the state’s unique blend of cultures into your home through its museums, historic sites, and cultural institutions.

This week includes three outstanding programs:

The History and Literary Arts department at the National Hispanic Cultural Center presents the latest online lecture in the series Tertulia Histórica Albuquerque “No One Expects the Spanish Inquisition in New Mexico: A History” via Zoom at 2 p.m. on June 19. The Inquisition was one of the most famous and infamous of religious courts in history, and the reviled institution even had a presence in New Mexico during the colonial period. State Historian Rob Martinez will present the history of the Inquisition with a focus on Mexico and New Mexico. Register for this free event here. 

Currently on exhibit at the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture, “Why We Serve: Native Americans in the United States Armed Forces" highlights the generations of Native Americans who have served in the military. Join the Museum at 4 p.m. on June 4 for a panel discussion featuring stories and experiences from Lt. Gov. Michael Chinana (Jemez Pueblo), Dr. Laura Tohe (Diné), and Patricia Caté (San Felipe Pueblo), and moderated by Dr. Matthew Martinez (Ohkay Owingeh). Register for this free event here.

The New Mexico Museum of Art online People to People interviews are now available on the Museum’s YouTube channel. The People to People interviews are informal talks between curators and artists.

Here are other interesting programs from across the Department:

•   New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum offers a series of Sunday posts on its Facebook page featuring historical short biographies of people connected to agriculture in New Mexico. These profiles include stories about some famous people, and some not so famous.

•   In the latest episode of “Stories from Space” on the New Mexico Museum of Space History Facebook page, get a closer look at the Aerobee rocket family, a key contributor to American rocketry.
