New Mexico Historic Sites welcomes a new instructional coordinator to Lincoln Historic Site and Fort Stanton Historic Site

Lincoln, NM – New Mexico Historic Sites (NMHS) is delighted to welcome Rachel Walden into the role of instructional coordinator for Lincoln Historic Site (LHS) and Fort Stanton Historic Site (FSHS).
In recent months, NMHS has brought several new staff members on board throughout the state, many of them in southern New Mexico. NMHS plans to highlight and celebrate each of them in a series of releases leading up to Old Lincoln Days, which runs August 5-7.
Walden hails from Minnesota, where she received her MA in Anthropology and a graduate certificate in Museum Science from Minnesota State University, Mankato. She also has experience teaching and years of volunteer experience researching and creating exhibits — while working for Blue Earth County Historical Society, she helped develop and implement interactive programming, and she conducted research and worked on exhibits for places like Brown County Historical Society and the Saint Peter State Hospital Museum.
“I’m looking forward to working at Lincoln and Fort Stanton,” Walden said. “Both of these sites have such potential. And there are a lot of talented people I have the good fortune to work with to help both grow and maintain the integrity of these sites.”
In her free time, Walden enjoys painting and studying herpetology. She has a dog, two turtles, a snake, and three frogs, as well as a woodhouse toad, who she recently rescued and has been nursing back to health.
About New Mexico Historic Sites New Mexico Historic Sites is a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, under the leadership of the Board of Regents for the Museum of New Mexico. Programs and exhibits are generously supported by the Museum of New Mexico Foundation and its donors. The New Mexico Historic Sites system was established in 1931 by an Act for the Preservation of the Scientific Resources of New Mexico. The eight Historic Sites include Coronado, Fort Selden, Fort Stanton, Bosque Redondo Memorial at Fort Sumner Historic Site, Jemez, Lincoln, and Los Luceros.
