National Hispanic Cultural Center Announces the 10th Anniversary Performance of the Nutcracker in the Land of Enchantment

December 13th, 2021

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is excited to announce the 10th anniversary performance of “The Nutcracker in the Land of Enchantment,” presented in collaboration with Festival Ballet Albuquerque and coming to NHCC’s Albuquerque Journal Theatre for five performances Dec. 17 through Dec. 19.

With a bit of a Southwest twist, this beloved holiday classic is transported to territorial New Mexico in the late 1800s. This version of the Christmas story will have many New Mexican staples including traditional Spanish dancers, a storyteller doll with children, a lively fandango, and lavish western-style Victorian costumes.

“We are so pleased to welcome Festival Ballet Albuquerque back to the NHCC for the 10th anniversary of this unique original production,” said Dr. Reeve Love, performing arts director. “We always look forward to the special New Mexican touches in the show—my personal favorites are the southwestern snakes—and this year Zozobra will make his debut!”

Tickets to all five performances of "The Nutcracker in the Land of Enchantment" are available to purchase through NHCC’s website.
