Exhibit Focuses on the Architectural History of National Hispanic Cultural Center
August 10th, 2021
ALBUQUERQUE – The History and Literary Arts program at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is excited to present “¡Mira! Nuestra Arquitectura: An Architectural Journey,” a history of the NHCC’s past, present and future.
Opening on August 13 in the History and Literary Arts, Library and Archives building, the exhibit chronicles the creation of the NHCC through text, sketch drawings, blueprints, maps, and photographs, exploring Hispanic/Latinx culture and heritage as expressed through the buildings and landscape across the 20-acre campus.
“¡Mira! Nuestra Arquitectura: An Architectural Journey” also addresses how the concept for the NHCC came to fruition and shows the original designs for the campus, the subsequent redesign, as well as the challenges and triumphs in constructing this prominent institution, which opened to the public on October 21, 2000.
Further development on the campus took root earlier this year with the opening of the New Mexico Mutual Welcome Center, pushing the NHCC into the next decade of its architectural story.
“¡Mira! Nuestra Arquitectura: An Architectural Journey” will be on display through December 2021.
