"MacGruber" Wraps Up Filming at the National Hispanic Cultural Center

ALBUQUERQUE – Production crews were at the National Hispanic Cultural Center from July 27-30 to film scenes for the upcoming television streaming series “MacGruber.”  

“MacGruber,” an action-comedy series for Peacock, a streaming service from NBCUniversal, will employ approximately 225 New Mexico crew members, 61 New Mexico actors and stunt players, and 850 New Mexico background actors. “MacGruber” will procure a wide range of goods and services from local businesses such as rental cars and trucks, hotels, travel, lumber, paint, hydraulic manufacturing, vintage picture vehicles, cameras, grip and electric equipment, and rental housing. In-state direct spending is expected to reach $24 million.  

“Filming at the NHCC provided greater exposure for our 20-acre campus, which opened in October 2000, and the architecture of the surrounding buildings offered a unique backdrop for this series,” said NHCC Deputy Director Alberto Cuessy.     

While the NHCC was closed, visitors were able to access online programming, including virtual art exhibitions such as “Because It’s Time: Unraveling Race and Place in NM” and “Mira, Mira on the Wall: Reflecting on 20 Years of NHCC Exhibitions,” and purchase tickets for upcoming events and to the Art Museum through the Center’s website at www.nhccnm.org.    

“MacGruber” is based on the “Saturday Night Live” sketch and 2010 feature film of the same name, portions of which were shot at the NHCC campus in 2009. The series stars Will Forte in the titular role, and also stars Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe, Sam Elliott, Laurence Fishburne, and Mickey Rourke. 

”MacGruber” will mostly be filmed at NBCUniversal’s New Mexico production facility, a state-of-the-art television and film studio with two sound stages, as well as offices and a mill, located in the Martineztown neighborhood of Albuquerque.  

In Fiscal Year 2021, the New Mexico Film Office reported a record $623 million of direct spend flowed into the state economy from 69 film and television productions.
