Explore the latest online programming from the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), bringing the state’s unique blend of cultures into your home through its museums, historic sites, and cultural institutions.

This week includes three outstanding programs:

The Museum of Indian Arts & Culture will continue its monthly pottery demonstration series via Zoom on April 14. This next episode will feature Santa Fe potter and painter Jacob Thomas Frye. An enrolled member of Tesuque Pueblo, Frye’s passion for art and learning started at age 5 while working alongside his parents with clay and other art forms, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Institute of American Indian Arts. He is inspired by great Renaissance Pueblo artists such as potter Nampeyo (Hopi-Tewa), who gave life to Sityatki polychrome. Register for this free event here.

The History and Literary Arts department at the National Hispanic Cultural Center presents the latest online lecture in the series Tertulia Histórica Albuquerque “The Pen and The Sword: Literary Works of Colonial New Mexico” via Zoom at 2 p.m. on April 24. State Historian Rob Martínez will discuss New Mexico’s early literary tradition with influences from epic poems of the ancient Mediterranean, colonial Mexico, and the mystic poetic traditions of San Juan de la Cruz and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. In the latest Quick Trip video on the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center YouTube channel, take a journey to southern New Mexico to explore the Organ Mountains, a set of granite peaks situated between Las Cruces and Alamogordo. The mountains harbor more than 800 plant species, including some that are uncommon in other regions of the state. The Sandia Mountain Natural History Center is a joint partnership with the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science and Albuquerque Public Schools.

If you can’t make it into the New Mexico Museum of Art to view its newest exhibition "Breath Taking," or if you want to take another look, check out the "Breath Taking" virtual tour. This exhibit on breathing features drawings, installations, photographs, sculptures, and videos from nearly 20 contemporary artists.

The New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum has added a TikTok account to its list of social media platforms, featuring videos of animals, exhibits, and other relevant content.
